About Me
This will be my first year working school-wide with students and staff in my role as PBIS or Positive Behavior Interventions and Support Coach. My PBIS role is 75% and my Math Interventionist role is 25%. I taught 7th & 8th grade math at Hamilton Middle School in Madison for fourteen years before switching over to Student Services and my PBIS role. For ten of those years I had the pleasure of job sharing my teaching position with my twin sister, Joan Unmacht. Our unique job sharing arrangement was featured on the news a couple of years ago. I attached a newspaper article below that was written about us at that time.
My twin is one of my many siblings. I have four other sisters and three brothers. We're a very close family and see each other often. Our parents moved us to Madison in 1982 just as I was entering high school. My sister and I attended Edgewood High School where I enjoyed school (especially my math classes) and my experiences on the volleyball, basketball, and track teams. I then went to the University of Wisconsin-Madison where I majored in education and psychology. I received my Masters Degree in education five years ago from the University of Wisconsin- LaCrosse.
My husband Jim is also an educator so we talk shop a lot at our house. He was a teacher and coach for many years but is now the Principal at Oregon High School. We are fortunate to have two wonderful children, Katie and Andrew, ages 17 and 19, both of whom attended Oregon Middle School. Katie is currently a senior at OHS and Andrew is a student and baseball player at Winona State University. My family and I love sports of any kind, but especially baseball, basketball and football. We are loyal Brewer, Cubs, Packer and Badger fans. In my spare time, I also enjoy reading, running, listening to music and spending time with family and friends.
